Why Non-Toxic Cleaning Products Matter for Your Health
Welcome to the first official blog post for Sarah’s Rose Co. I’m so grateful you’re here. My mission is simple: to help families create healthier homes using products that support your well-being rather than work against it. Today, I want to share why choosing non-toxic cleaners isn’t a trend. It’s a foundational step toward protecting your body, your hormones, your air quality, and your long-term wellness.
Many conventional household cleaners contain chemical ingredients that have been linked to respiratory irritation, hormone disruption, headaches, allergies, and long-term indoor air pollution. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported that indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air, partly due to the buildup of cleaning chemicals and synthetic fragrances trapped inside our homes. When we spray them on countertops, floors, and surfaces we touch daily, our bodies absorb those ingredients through our skin and our lungs.
One of the biggest concerns is a category called volatile organic compounds, often called VOCs. These are gases released from many common household cleaners that can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat and contribute to chronic respiratory issues. The EPA links certain VOCs to long-term health concerns when exposure is repeated over time. The problem is that most of us use these products weekly, sometimes daily, without realizing how much our bodies are absorbing.
Synthetic fragrances are another major issue. While they smell clean, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has documented that many artificial fragrances contain phthalates, which are chemicals known for their ability to disrupt hormones. Hormone balance influences everything from mood and energy to metabolism, fertility, and healthy aging. The fragrance industry is not required to disclose its exact ingredients, which means many consumers unknowingly bring endocrine-disrupting chemicals into their homes.
Ammonia, bleach, and harsh disinfectants are also common irritants. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that these chemicals can affect lung function, especially for children, pets, and individuals with asthma or allergies. When mixed accidentally, they can even create toxic fumes. For many families, the long-term exposure builds slowly until symptoms like coughing, headaches, fatigue, or sensitivity to smells become part of daily life.
Switching to non-toxic cleaning products is one of the simplest, most effective ways to reduce that burden on your body. Plant-based cleaners made with real botanicals, natural surfactants, and simple ingredients help keep your home clean without leaving behind harmful residue or polluted air. The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has consistently shown that products with transparent, natural ingredients reduce indoor chemical load and support healthier air quality overall.
At Sarah’s Rose Co, every bottle is crafted with this in mind. You deserve products that work beautifully without sacrificing your health or your peace of mind. Your home should feel like a sanctuary, and what you use to clean it should reflect that.
Thank you for being here, thank you for caring about what goes into your home, and thank you for choosing a cleaner path forward. This is the future of healthy living, and I’m honored to be on this journey with you.
